Training the Companion Dog

by Dr. Ian Dunbar

Please note, these DVDs were produced many years ago and Ian's training methods have advanced in that time. Dog & Bone and Ian Dunbar would not recommend any lead corrections or other aversive training methods, as shown in some of the below DVDs.

This 4-volume DVD collection, available as a set of 4 or individually, provides all the information needed to teach your dog to be a well-mannered pet and a good ambassador for the dog world. Each DVD provides practical demonstrations of basic training exercises so you will know exactly how to put the advice into practice.

Review of Disc 2

This is classic Dr Ian Dunbar at his best, full of great advice on some common behaviour problems. Barking, digging, house training etc. Although the DVD is a little dated, the great thing is that much of the advice is as good today as it was when this DVD was originally filmed and I have certainly used some of the techniques successfully with my dogs. There is one scene however, where an owner slaps their dog as a correction and this was a little surprising and alarming until you remember the year that this was originally filmed, no clickers and bait pouches here. Thankfully today we know there are better ways to modify a dog’s behaviour without the use of physical punishments. If however, you want to see some classic Ian Dunbar and his unique dog impressions, mixed with a little humour and easy to understand information that can be adapted to a variety of techniques, you will not go far wrong with this DVD in your collection.
