The Dog's Mind - Friday 29th November (10am-5pm)

This seminar reveals the most recent scientific discoveries on dogs’ social cognition, explained by a scientist but presented in a clear and understandable way.

Dogs, thanks to their evolutionary and developmental history with humans, show some socio-cognitive skills that were thought to be uniquely human. During the seminar the attendees will be taken into the journey of discoveries that have brought us to know a little bit more of “the dog’s mind”.

It is a ‘not to be missed’ event for all professionals working with dogs, but also for interested owners and dog lovers.

It will be possible to undertake an exam at the end of the seminar and obtain a certificate showing the acquired knowledge.

The seminar will cover the latest discoveries such as:

  • Self awareness in dogs
  • Language learning and processing and related cognitive skills. Do dogs understand our words?
  • The development of socio-cognitive skills in dog puppies and how to use them for training
  • The roots of social learning and imitation. Why is it so special?
  • How do dogs remember? Different types of memory
  • What do dogs learn from humans?
  • The ability to understand others’ actions and their goals.

Who is it for? This 1 day seminar is suitable for dog trainers, veterinarians, other professionals working with dogs and interested owners.

Social Learning in Puppies - Saturday 30th November (9am-4pm)

This is an experimental workshop where Claudia will explain the findings about social learning and social referencing in puppies, illustrating her team's experience of training puppies with social learning and using puppies for live demonstrations so that attendees can see see how it works, the benefits and the limitations.

This workshop is most suitable for trainers and owners keen to discover more about the best way to train puppies. This is not a 'bring your own' dog but we will source suitable puppies for the practical section.

Who is it for? This 1 day seminar is suitable for dog trainers, veterinarians, other professionals working with dogs and interested owners.
