Dog & Bone's book review: The Dog Care Handbook

This book is easy to read, handy to refer to, and would be a welcome addition to any dog owner’s book case. With clearly laid out chapters, the reader can either choose to read the book from cover to cover, or dip in and out as they require. Personal anecdotes from Chris, the author, maintain engagement with the chapter topics. This book is full of accessible information, while maintaining the solid evidence base expected of a veterinary professional.

Practical tips for common ailments, such as vomiting and diarrhoea, are provided. Sections on first aid and nursing your dog at home provide practical tips that may save you a trip or 2 to the vet. Chronic conditions and old age are discussed with sensitivity. The FAQ to finish provides even more useful information not already addressed.

After reading this book any dog owner will be more informed about all aspects of general care for their dog, and will be prepared thoroughly for any trips to the vet they do have to make. This book is definitely worth a read.
