Daniel Mills Seminar

26 May 2017 14:31:38

Daniel Mills seminar

It was lovely sunny weather for our seminar with Professor Daniel Mills on the Human-Dog Relationship and Separation Anxiety.

We felt very privileged to be given the latest scientific findings on this fascinating topic which, as Daniel demonstrated, is far more complex than may at first appear.

Thank you very much to Daniel for a very interesting day.

Open Paw in the UK

5 May 2017 13:38:38

We are very excited to be bringing two very special two-day events to you in July, one in Hertfordshire and one in Yorkshire.

Kelly Gorman Dunbar, the originator of the Open Paw scheme, which transforms the lives of dogs in kennels, is coming over from America to speak in person about how it all works.  She's teaming up with Clare Williams, the CEO of the National Animal Welfare Trust (NAWT) to deliver this.  NAWT have been implementing the Open Paw scheme so Clare will be able to share invaluable information about how she has found it has worked in practise.  Day 1 of each event will be a seminar to give all the facts and details about the scheme and an optional day 2 will be on site at an Open Paw kennel to see the scheme in action.

Don't miss out on this great opportunity!

Haqihana Range

29 Apr 2017 08:58:31

One of the great things about Haqihana harnesses is the enormous range of colours, sizes and shapes to choose from.  It means that not only can your dog wear a beautiful and comfortable harness that is exactly the right fit but the right colour to complement their coat. We are proud at Dog & Bone to be able to offer an outstanding range of choice.

Nando makes everything clear

22 Apr 2017 14:26:08

What a superb seminar with Nando Brown at the Kennel CLub facility at Stoneleigh.  He gave us a scientific overview of the different types of learning theory.  He demonstrated how it can be so easy to fall into a popular interpretation of certain words, like "Positive", that the science on which these theories are based is lost. Nando put us right in a way that was clear and very entertaining. A resounding 5 star rating on all feedback forms for both the speaker and the topic. Thank you, Nando.

Many thanks to Kay Attwood for giving us a fascinating couple of days on boosting our dog's brain power.  Through a series of exercises, we learned not only how to encourage our dogs to think for themselves but gained an insight into how dogs think.

The dogs were certainly exhausted at the end of each day so they'd obviously been working hard.

Empowering the Canine Learner

30 Mar 2017 14:47:00

Chirag seminarWe had a fab time with Chirag on Tuesday where a packed room learned about how we can empower our canine learners and give them choice throughout training.

The 'bucket game' was as popular as ever, and we had some really lovely comments on our feedback forms.

Yoga and Fireworks

27 Mar 2017 14:23:14

Thanks to Toni Shelbourne for an interesting day of diverse topics.

Real Dog Yoga was something we at Dog and Bone knew little about so were interested to see how it worked in practise.  Toni explained how to set up the environment to create the right learning experience for the dog and took some of the handlers through a few of the yoga moves to give a flavour of the activity.  The dogs all seemed pretty chilled by the end of the morning.

Toni also had some very useful information on what to do if your dog is afraid of fireworks.  In this afternoon seminar she went through suggestions for both training and using calming aids such as TTouch, sound and scent therapy.  An enjoyable talk with practical advice.

First Five Do As I Do Dogs

27 Mar 2017 14:12:07

Thanks to Sara Tagliati for two superb days of Do As I Do.  She not only introduced owners new to Do As I Do to the protocols so that they could begin to train their dogs but put dogs with more experience of the technique through their paces with a Do As I Do test.  All 5 entrants were successful despite rigorous criteria and can proudly claim to be the first officially qualified Do As I Do dogs in the UK.  My favorite part of the event was seeing the power of this training technique in action when Sara showed how a new behaviour could be taught and put on cue in seconds, a cue that was still retained hours later.

Fantastic!

Denise Fenzi

13 Mar 2017 16:56:33

We're very excited to be hosting Denise Fenzi in November.  The announcement immediately generated lots of excitement and we're so looking forward to learning what Denise can teach us about motivation, particularly for dog sports.  We're at two great venues, too.  One is Forest Oak Farm down in Gloucester and the other is the IABTC venue in Doncaster.

Hope you can join us.
