Building Drive and Motivation for All Dog Sports with Denise Fenzi

This seminar is designed to be applicable to participants from a range of doggy disciplines. Denise will explain each of the basic drives that we use in dog training, and how to build them to a level that they can be used in training. Playing tug is discussed extensively. The discussion continues from drives to developing focus in a competition dog, with a strong emphasis on reading and reacting to your dog’s emotional state.

Strategies for overcoming stress in the competition dog are discussed extensively, along with specific techniques for working with fearful or reactive dogs. As an “all sports” seminar, obedience examples will be used, but will NOT be practiced by participants. Working time is spent developing play skills and learning games for increased focus and interaction with your dog. All techniques are play based and fun. This seminar is VERY heavy on lecture and discussion. Working time is both individual and in groups with one on one feedback from Denise to improve your techniques and help you better understand your dog.

This seminar is most popular with agility and obedience competitors who wish to build (or control) drive, focus and play in their dogs, but would also be appropriate for anyone wanting to build motivation for any other activity.

Working places

Working places are strictly limited in numbers. No bitches in season are permitted and working dogs must not be reactive as they will be around other dogs. Working places can be dogs from any sport as a lot of the exercises worked on are separate to the equipment or specific exercises relating to their sport. Dogs will only be working for short sessions so must be able to settle in a crate / blanket in between practical sessions. Working places are for one dog and one handler team for the whole event, it is not suitable to swap dogs during the seminar.

Fenzi Dog Sports Academy will have priority for the working places, these working places are currently sold out at both venues. We have a waiting list for anyone wishing to purchase a working place should they become available. If you are interested, please purchase a spectator ticket and contact us to let us know you would like to upgrade if possible.

Spectators are not able to bring their own dogs into the venue (with the exception of assistance dogs).
